SAM FRIEND

From a young age, I've always been fascinated by film, I was only 12 years old when I first picked up my mums JVC Handycam and began my journey as a young filmmaker.

I got my start in the industry by shooting my brother's band as they travelled the world, capturing their experiences on and off the stage. This was an incredible opportunity to see the world at a young age and learn my craft at the same time.

Fast forward a few years and I felt I had learnt as much as I could when it came to touring / live music content. I took a position at a sports media company as Head of Production and went on to create a series of original content following different athletes with powerful stories. I had developed a love for storytelling like never before, and documentary filmmaking in general.

After 3 years I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge as a cinematographer and start focusing less on post production and more on camera and lighting. I made the jump into the freelance world and started assisting in the camera department, where I learnt the intricacies of cinema cameras and life on set.

I have now been a DOP for 6 years and am more passionate than ever before about cinematography. I constantly look forward to taking on new projects, facing challenges and learning how to overcome them to achieve the look we set out for. I'm eager to keep learning and expanding on my knowledge.
